Zermatt, Switzerland, March 2003
Stine was on her last spring break from UCLA, and for this trip we talked her parents Jorn and Kerstin into joining us. What follows are photos and descriptions of what was a great week in the Swiss Alps.
We figured that since we only had ten days to get there and back, we better make the most of it. We decided that this was as good a time as any to cash in our frequent flyer miles, so we used all we had for two first class Lufthansa tickets to Geneva. You only live once.
So as we were checking in at LAX, who did we meet but my long-lost cousin Nicky Cacavas! He now works for Lufthansa. We had a drink with him at the lounge, and talked about everything from summers in Pickerel Lake, South Dakota, to his daughter who now lives in Germany.
At Geneva airport, we met up with Jorn and Kerstin. The train ride to Zermatt…

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof, and it was a very nice place to stay, with friendly service and excellent accommodations.
A view from our room…the round building is the new Zermatt casino. The church is on the left.
On the slopes, on the Furgsattel glacier. Stine, Jorn, and Kerstin. Beautiful weather the whole time.
